The Deep Photographic Guide to the
Constellations
The constellation of the month
NOVEMBER
Andromeda and Triangulum
Unmark the Deep Sky Objects
Names:
Latin: Andromeda (And); Triangulum (Tri)
English: | Andromeda; Triangle
| Spanish: | Andrómeda; Triángulo
|
German: | Andromeda; Dreieck
| French: | Andromede; Triangle
|
In mid-november Andromeda culminates at about 21:30 h local time
(see lines). For observers at geographic
latitude 40o north it goes right through the zenith. The position is about twenty degrees
below the galactic plane, you can recognize the increasing star density to the upper right.
So there are not many galactic
deep sky objects,
with the exception of the open cluster NGC 752
visible on the left hand side.
But Andromeda is famous for the extragalactic M 31, the so called Andromeda Nebula, which is
a very similar spiral galaxy to our own Galaxy. Also visible in the photography is the face on spiral
galaxy M 33, which already belongs to the constellation Triangulum.
